INTRODUCTION

The city of Granada is the place where the largest community of Spanish Muslims has gathered after an interlude of five hundred years. This community has been, in the last twenty years, the strongest force of Dawa in Spain attracting not only new Spanish Muslims converts but also great numbers of Muslims from other lands. There is also an increasing number of muslim inmigrants settling and putting down roots in the city of Granada, mostly from North and Western Africa.

One of the more significant needs of the Muslim Community of Granada from the beginning has been the establishment of a Muslim School to give a healthy and correct education for the increasing number of Muslim children.

Since 1990 the Islamic Community in Spain has put into practice the schooling of its children, primarily in the phase of elementary education. This was through the iniciative of families that wished their children to be educated by muslim teachers who could transmit to them the values of Islam and nobility of character in addition to academic skills.

But from the beginning, the intention of the Muslims of Spain has been to implement an ambitious project for the construction of an Educational Centre that allows an increase in the number of muslim students living in the city.

The time has arrived to put into practice the experience gained during all these years by the muslim community and its leaders, as well as by the group of Muslim teachers.
